The Oriental Dancer in the Middle East has played an important

This
is a cultural tradition which pre-dates Islam and has existed
for
thousands of years in all the countries in this area. It is probably
related
to the function of women in the Ancient Civilizations as Godesses,
Priestesses, and Queens. The birth of a child was revered as
a part of A
Sacred Fertility Rite. After thousands of years using music and
dance as a
ritual celebration the tradition of having a dancer to participate
in these
events has become a part of the culture. People love the dancer
and want her to act as a blessing for the event, in a modern
sense to bring good luck and
make the celebration special and memorable.
The
women have always had their pre-wedding night party. They give
the
bride presents, eat together, hire musicains, dance, and enjoy
a dancer's
performance. This is a time of female bonding and fun. The men
have their own
party together which has become what we now call a stag night.
The ladies
party has become what we now call a hen party.
Many
women in London are now having a hen party for the bride and
inviting a
Dancer to perform. Then she gives a dance lesson which all the
girls
have fun learning. The Bride is dressed up in a costume with
a beaded
hip scarf, headdress, and a veil. They take photos and have fun
dressing up.
Usually it is held at a MiddleEastern Resturant, like a Morrocan,
Turkish or Lebanese. They have a lot of fun dancing to arabic
music, lovely
Eastern Food and an Exotic Night Out. The Party can also be at
the home
of one of the friends of the Bride. If a day of activities is
planned, the event can be a Dance Class at a Dance Studio. The
ladies have some great photos and memories of a special night
with the Bride.
Asmahan
